Daniel Bosse Obituary

Daniel J. Bosse, of Moscow, died Tuesday April 28, 2020, at Griman Medical Center in Moscow after a courageous 15 year battle with Parkinson’s disease. He was 78

Dan was born April 19, 1942 in Moscow to Richard and Martha Bosse. The family moved to Spokane when he was a small child where they lived until Dan’s senior year in High School when the family returned to Moscow. Dan graduated from Moscow high school in 1961. During high school Dan me t Janice Peterson while Dan’s sister was dating Jan’s brother Gary. They were married May 5, 1962.

After High school Dan went to work for the postal Service as a substitute clerk carrier. He was later the first non-political appointed Postmaster in Moscow and still holds the title of longest serving Postmaster in Moscow, where he worked until his retirement after 37 years in 1998. Following Dan’s retirement he began a second career testing various mail sorting systems in major cities across the United States until his official retirement in 2011.

Dan and Jan enjoyed boating and cruising Lake Coeur d’ Alene for many years with children and grandchildren. Dan’s Favorite hobbies were golfing, golfing and more golfing. A few months every winter Dan and Jan would travel to Maui, where Dan would golf some more.

Dan was not just a joiner but a leader in every organization he joined, which included; AARP Latah Chapter, National Association of Active and Retired Federal Employees, National Association of Postmasters of the United States, St. Mary’s School Board where he served as President, started the Christmas Tree sale and was the first Auctioneer for the annual auction, Kihei Akahi Timeshare Owners Association Board of Directors, and the Knights of Columbus where he served as Grand Knight and Faithful Navigator. He was known for his dedication and determination to all these organizations, and one never had to wonder what he was thinking because he never hesitated to share his opinion.  Although he was proud of his achievements, his greatest was supporting and being involved in his children’s lives as they matured into successful adults.

Dan is survived by his Wife of 58 years, Janice at their Moscow home. His children Julie (Lee) Mueller, Jerry (Laura Granato) Bosse, Jaqueline (Luke) Newcomb, and Jami (Bryant) Gilbertson.
