George G. Haskell, a longtime Deary resident, died Monday, May 7, 2018 at Providence Sacred Medical Center in Spokane. He was 85.
George was born April 27, 1933 at Lewiston and was raised and attended school in Culdesac. He joined the US Army, serving in Korea. Following his discharge, he returned to Idaho and in February of 1955, he married Dorothy Mae Day in Lewiston. The couple had six children and in 1978 moved to Deary.
Over the years, George farmed, logged, worked in the cedar mill, as a lineman for AT&T and finally retired from Latah County Highway Department as truck driver. He was a member of the Lion’s Club, enjoyed woodworking, fishing, hunting, camping, hunting mushrooms and gardening – especially sweet corn.
George was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Dorothy, in May of 2006. He is survived by his children, Mike and Janelle Haskell of Grants Pass, OR, Pat Haskell of Lewiston, Daniel and Marla of Moscow and Corrina and Ron Johnson of Deary. He also leaves 13 grandchildren and several great grandchildren and a brother Bob Haskell in Texas.
In addition to his wife, George was also preceded in death by two sons, Billy and Tim, a grandson, Travis, a brother, Jack and sisters Sherlene and Donna Haskell.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday, May 19th at the Deary Community Bible Church. A covered dish potluck luncheon will follow at the Deary Community Center. A graveside service will be at Lewis-Clark Memorial Gardens in Lewiston on Sunday.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Deary EMT’s and Fire Department.
