Guy "Bud" Nearing

Guy J (Bud) Nearing of Moscow passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Friday, October 19th, 2018.

He was born November 3, 1926 to Guy O and Mabel Nearing in Potlatch, Idaho.  He attended schools in Potlatch, then in Moscow where he met his high school sweetheart Verla Mae Wilcox.   Bud enlisted in the Navy his senior year, returning two years later.  He had continued his education while in the Navy, so upon his return was able to graduate from Moscow High School the same year as Verla Mae. They were married in the fall of 1947 and this year in October celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary.   Bud and Verla lived and worked on his dad’s dairy farm North of Moscow which they eventually bought and called Nearla Dairy.  They had three children Karen (Mike) McGarvey of Moscow, Joyce (John) Anderson of Spokane and Kenneth (Judy) Nearing of Lewiston.  In addition to raising their own children they were foster parents.

Guy was involved in Grange, Mission Springs 4-H as a leader, and was an auctioneer for many years. After selling the dairy, he developed land on his property known as the Nearing Addition.  He and Verla enjoyed camping, fishing and traveling.  They also spent several years as the tour directors for the Idaho Road Runners.  His hobbies included singing, painting landscapes, cooking, playing pinochle and spending time with his family and friends. Throughout his 91 years Bud touched many lives and had a big impact on all who knew him.

Guy is survived by his wife, three children, 6 grandchildren, and several great and great-great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by 3 brothers, 2 sisters, a grandson and a son-in-law.

A graveside service is planned at the Moscow Cemetery, on Monday, October 29, 2018 at 1:00pm.  A reception will follow at Good Samaritan, community room from 2 to 4 pm.
