Rod Carscallen Obituary

Rod Carscallen of Viola died Sunday, April 28, 2019 at his home. He was 73.

Roderick Carl Carscallen was born January 28, 1946 in Moscow to Wilmar A. and Louise A. (Katzenberger) Carscallen. Rod grew up and attended school in Potlatch, graduating from Potlatch High School in 1964. He then enrolled at North Idaho College to learn the art of auto body repair.

Rod began work at Wally Orvik Chevrolet, later Moscow Body and Glass, Chipman & Brown, returning to Moscow Body and Glass, retiring from there in 2010.

Rod was an avid pool player and was on several leagues, enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping, refurbishing old cars and attending car shows. Rod rarely missed any of his kids, nieces, nephews and especially grandkids sporting events.

Rod and Penny Musick were married in Coeur d’Alene in December of 1975. She preceded him in death in April of 2010.

Surviving are his sons, Dan and Debby Carscallen, Toby and Lisa Carscallen and Bryan and Wendy Thompson all of Moscow. His grandchildren, Zac, McKenzie, Devin and Sidney Carscallen and Hayden and Kennedy Thompson. Rod also leaves his sisters, Betty (Don) Nagle and Janice (Donovan) Palmer both of Potlatch along with his nieces and nephews, Denise (Bob) Palmer of Kirkland, WA, Laurie (Ron) Palmer of Kenmore, WA, Luanne (David) Briggs of Boise, Brad Palmer and Marcia Moore both of Potlatch, Buck (Mary) Taggart of Viola and a sister-in-law, Debby Musick of Viola.

A Celebration of Rod’s life will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, May 2nd at the Moscow Church of the Nazarene. Pastor Kathy Kramer will officiate and a potluck luncheon and time of fellowship will follow at the Latah County Fairgrounds.

The family suggests that memorials be made to the Moscow Bear Boosters, PO Box 9724, Moscow, ID 83843.
