Stephanie Staniewski Obituary

Stephanie Staniewski, 68, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2020 at her home in Sandpoint, Idaho surrounded by her family after an almost nine-year battle with a brain tumor.

Stephanie was born on July 8, 1951 in Moscow, Idaho to Maynard and Margaret Fosberg. She grew up on the family farm in Moscow with her brother Mark and graduated from Moscow high school in 1969.  She was an excellent equestrian in her youth, participating in 1971 and earning a gold medal. She would go on to earn two degrees from Idaho, a Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture in 1973 and a Masters Degree in Veterinary Services in 1975. Eventually, she found her calling as a pharmacist and earned her degree in pharmacy from Washington State University in 1991.  A tireless worker, she practiced as a pharmacist for two decades until she was forced to retire due to illness.

She married John Staniewski in 1980 and adopted his two daughters, Katie and Amee, before having a third child, Drew, in 1982.  Their adventure took them from Idaho to Utah to Tennessee, where she lived for close to 20 years, working as a pharmacist in Nashville for The Kroger Company.  She was always on the move and, as an avid traveler, she and John found their way to far-flung places like New Zealand, South Africa, and Patagonia.

But above all, her passion was her family. She was an incredibly devoted wife, mother and daughter, and shared her parents’ commitment to maintaining their farm in Moscow.  A true North Idahoan at heart, she retired to Sandpoint with her husband in 2012 to take care of her father, Maynard, and the family farm.

She is survived by her husband, John, her three children, Katie, Amee, and Drew, her father, Maynard, and her brother, Mark.  She is preceded in death by her mother, Margaret.

A viewing will be held Thursday, April 30, from Noon to 5pm at Short’s Funeral Chapel at 1126 E 6th Street, Moscow, ID 83843.  A private burial will follow on Friday.  A memorial service will be planned for a later date in Moscow.
